Awakened: Change your Mindset to Transform Your Teaching by Angela Watson
“Do the never-ending pressures of teaching drain you emotionally? Is a lack of resources and support stealing your enthusiasm? Are the small daily hassles adding up and overwhelming you?” asks Angela Watson.
My answer to each of these questions was yes. I’m sure many of yours are as well.
One thing I wish I would have done when I first started teaching is come across Angela Watson’s website ms.powell.com. As a teacher, she really focused on how to grow, change and improve her own perceptions in order to help herself become a better teacher and person each year. I respect that. She has now since created another website called thecornerstoneforteachers.com, and before I knew who she was, I was always coming to this site for ideas, tips, and motivation. I dug a little deeper.
Her passion is to help teachers work more effectively, efficiently, and effortlessly. Who wouldn’t want to have a 40 Hour Teacher Work Week? (http://thecornerstoneforteachers.com/40hour). I think what she offers is certainly beneficial and necessary for teachers to enjoy teaching every day. You should definitely visit, follow, and return again and again.
As I considered my attitude about teaching these past few years, it was becoming negative, and I knew I needed a change if I was going to continue working in the field. I quickly realized that everything I complained about was beyond my control. I therefore focused on what I could control which was my mindset. As I browsed through Pinterest and different blogs, I stumbled upon this book. http://thecornerstoneforteachers.com/books/awakened. You can also find the book on Amazon.com. Her book is broken into three sections: Setting the Foundation for a Healthy Mind, Breaking Free of Destructive Habits, and Cultivating a Positive Frame of Reference. I am currently finishing the second section. I never realized the amount of destructive habits I possessed that have contributed to how I was feeling about myself as a teacher. But most of the time when we do realize this, we seldom know what to do about it. The third section of this book is key for that reason alone.
I am a lifelong learner so I am always looking for new ideas and ways to be inspired. Once I finish Awakened, I will report back on my thoughts. I am already renewed, and I want to keep this mindset, so as I continue reading, I am sure to be more renewed, encouraged, and refreshed.
Will you read Awakened? If so, share your thoughts about the book. Let’s continue to learn and grow together. Happy Teaching! 🙂
Other books I have read that have influenced my teaching and mindset that you may also enjoy reading! Click the book to purchase from Amazon. There are no affiliate links on this page. That means, I am receiving no compensation for listing these books.
